SAP Certification for students

The University of Applied Sciences Ansbach was selected as one of the 20 pilot universities in the Europe/Middle-East/Africa region to offer the TERP10-Certification (SAP TERP10: Integration of Business Processes) in 2008. Professor Heesen offered the first course in Ansbach in March 2009. It was completely booked and 83% of the participants passed the certification exam on the last day. Prof. Heesen successfully offered the course again in 2010.

The course is currently NOT offered at the Ansbach University. Interested students can enroll at the University of Duisburg/Essen, which offers a virtual preparation for the certification exam for students.

Key performance indicators

David Parmenter introduces a new classification of what is well known as "Key Performance Indicators" e.g. by Kaplan & Norton in their book "The Balanced Scorecard: Translating strategy into action" in 1996. While they differentiated between lagging inidicators (outcome) and leading indicators (performance drivers), Parmenter differentiates between KRIs (Key result indicators), which tell how an organization has done in the past, and PIs (Performance indicators) and KPIs (Key performance indicators), which tell what can be done to increase performance. The book also contributes a table of measures (p. 203-231) describing their name, frequency, BSC perspective and team, applicable industry sector and the intended strategic objective.

I also want to share a quote with you, summarizing the philosophy behind the introduction of key performance indicators: "What happens if a KPI target or goal is not achieved? This is not a crisis. The focus should be on analyizing why the goal could not be achieved. Through this problem-solving focus, the team can progressively identify and eliminate the barriers to the achievement of their goal" (p. 198).
